Tips for club officials and managers

Do you know…

…how to increase interest in women’s football and therefore the number of supporters of this sport?

…that women’s football is hardly mentioned on TV at all and you can find all the information about it on social media?

…that your good social media management is a step forward in popularising women’s football?

So…

Create a social media fan page for the team, and supervise the project

Periodically send out invitations to the team’s fanpage to your friends, including those who are not interested in women’s football at all

Recruit a social media person – this could be volunteers, students, or it could be one of the players

Help players create a fanpage and help them manage social media

Help top athletes manage their social media accounts and help those who you know are working and don’t have time to manage social media

Take photos of training, matches

Despite the failures, add new, only positive posts every few days

Show match results – even if lost

Add posts so that players can share them on their fanpage

Interview athletes who can be role models for many girls and women

From time to time introduce short films instead of posts – they widen the audience and are definitely more appealing – it can be just a fragment of a match

If you are afraid of negative comments, make the film available without the possibility for outsiders to speak

Encourage a lot of people from outside the club, from different industries, in order to develop your social media even further

Collaborate with other clubs, teams, social media administrators, don’t treat them as competition, they aim to spread women’s football – just like YOU

Start cooperating with local media – regional television and press. Look for sports journalists in your area and start working with them

Include sponsor logos in posts and videos

The higher the profile of a club, the easier it is to attract sponsors

Remember to respect women. If, in your opinion, your post may be misconstrued by women – don’t give it

Don’t compare men footballers with women footballers; it’s a controversial topic; reactions to posts can be different

Never write negatively in social media about the opposing team and their coach or referee

Do not write back, do not intervene on negative unjustified comments, delete them or block the person who writes them

Know that if you show that women play football – you give support to other female footballers

Create a website, which will also help to provide information about your team

Present the history of the club and current information about the club, describe the composition of the team, include photos and information about the players

Publish news on your club’s website

Remember that the more people that come into touch with women’s football, the more people see the sport
